Back Row Cornet - Colin Gallagher
Colin Gallagher began his playing career in1977 with the now - disbanded Newmains and District Brass Band and played in his first national championship with that band in 1978. He played both principal cornet and soprano cornet with Newmains before joining the Kirkintilloch Band in 1989 on the latter instrument. However, in Colin’s own words, his enthusiasm for the soprano was, unfortunately, not matched by his talent and after much pleading, he eventually got his wish and moved on to the flugel horn which proved to be a good move for both Colin and the band. He went on to win two Scottish championships with the band as well as a Scottish solo championship.
After several breaks away from banding, Colin joined Coalburn band as principal cornet before returning to the back row of the Kirkintilloch band. Following another lengthy break, Colin became a member of The Co-operative Funeralcare Band in October, 2009.
