The Co-operative Funeralcare Band will give a concert in Stirling
The Co-operative Funeralcare Band, one of Scotland's top brass bands, will give a concert in Stirling on Saturday, 14th November, 2009 along with the recently formed Callander Brass. The concert will take place in St. Columba’s Parish Church, Park Terrace, Stirling and commences at 7:30p.m.
The Co-operative Funeralcare band was formed in1918 (under its former name, the SCWS band) by workers in the CWS factories in Shieldhall, Glasgow and, in terms of the number of competitions won it is, arguably, Scotland's most successful brass band, having been Scottish champions 29 times. In 1990 and, again, in 1996, the band won the National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in London and, to this day, it remains the only Scottish band ever to win this prestigious title. In addition, the band has been runner-up in the European Championship twice, in 1988 and 1997 and has been placed third in the British Open Championship twice in 1992 and 1996.
The generous support of The Co-operative has been a vital factor in the band's success story and has enabled the band to work with many distinguished conductors over the years.
The band's conductor for the Stirling concert will be Gavin Lindsay who has a wealth of musical experience behind him in brass bands. Callander Brass will be conducted by Ian Milligan who was largely responsible for founding the group.
Tickets for the event can be obtained by contacting Ken Milligan at 01877 339474.
