Congratulations to Charlie Farren

On Sunday, 8th February, 2009 Charlie Farren, bass trombonist of the Scottish Co-op Band took part in the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships at the Strathbrock Community Centre in Broxburn.

Having safely negotiated the qualification section on Sunday morning, Charlie then took part in the afternoon's senior solo final along with five other performers who were deemed worthy of a place in the last six in the eyes of adjudicators Michael Dodd and James Gourlay. Charlie was the only trombonist to gain a place in this finalists' group.

Although he did not win the competition outright, Charlie's performance of "Allegro and Finale" by Eugene Bozza was good enough to win him the "World Of Brass" prize for the most innovative solo in the championships.
