On Wednesday, 19th May, 2010, The Co-operative Funeralcare Band took part in a student recital performance in the Crawfurd Theatre at the Jordanhill Campus of Strathclyde University in Glasgow. The band provided the accompaniment for euphonium player Iain McDonald who gave a recital as part of his BA Applied Music degree course. The band was conducted by its Musical Director, Michael Fowles.
The recital programme was a demanding one and consisted of eight well-known solos for euphonium including “Rhapsody For Euphonium and Band” by James Curnow, the first movement of “Euphonium Concerto” by Joseph Horowitz and a very old favourite “Grandfather’s Clock” arranged by Drake Rimmer.
According to Mr. Gerry Rossi, course director of the BA Applied Music course at the Jordanhill campus, this was the first time that a full brass band had appeared at the university in this particular role.
The soloist was a pupil of the band’s principal euphonium player, Alison Bonnar, and gave his recital in front of a sizeable and enthusiastic audience consisting of relatives, friends, fellow students and band supporters.
