The Co-operative Funeralcare Band To Visit Ross High School, Tranent
On Wednesday, 2nd December, 2009 the current Scottish champion brass band will share the stage with young brass players from the East Lothian area in a Christmas concert in Ross High School, Tranent.
In this annual event, members of The Co-operative Funeralcare Band (formerly the Scottish Co-op band) will again mix with young brass players who are drawn from a variety of schools in the Dunbar and Tranent areas to form the East Lothian Schools' Brass Band. The young players will, once again, be under the direction of Mr. Charles Farren who is a brass instructor in East Lothian and is also bass trombonist with the Co-operative Funeralcare Band.
The first half of the programme will consist of music played by the schools' band assisted by a number of The Co-operative Funeralcare Band players. Thereafter, the second half will consist of a mini concert given by the Co-operative Funeralcare band under the direction of Gavin Lindsay who was recently appointed to be the band's resident conductor.
As always, it is hoped that this format will encourage young players to develop their brass playing skills and let them see what can be achieved in terms of musical excellence.
The involvement of the band in this manner is part of its policy of encouraging youth development and is in keeping with The Co-operative's policy of putting money from their profits back into the community to support local clubs, community groups and self-help organisations across the United Kingdom.
Tickets for the event at Ross High School will be on sale at the door on the evening in question at a cost of £5 for adults. Concessionary tickets will cost £3. The concert begins at 7:30pm.
