On Sunday, 7th February, 2010 at the recent Besson Scottish Solo & Ensemble Championships organised in association with West Lothian Council, the band's mixed quartet of Craig Robertson (cornet), Caroline Farren (flugel horn) Alison Hall (tenor horn) and Charlie Farren (bass trombone) won the Open Ensembles competition.

The music chosen by the players for the competition was called "Break It Down" by Peter Meechan which was originally written as a trombone quartet for "Bones Apart" and later re-scored for mixed ensemble.

The quartet's performance was good enough for adjudicators Bryan Allen and Neil Gallie to award it first place with 94 points. As a result, the group won The Tennant Trophy awarded by Band Supplies (Scotland) and also the Music Innovation Award sponsored by "World of Brass".

The previous day, trombonist Charlie Farren played in the open solos event and won the George Gilmore Trophy for best trombone in the competition.
