On 9th December, 2008, the Scottish Co-op Band was pleased to announce that Russell Gray had agreed to conduct the band at the Scottish Championships in March 2009 when the test piece will be "Salute To Youth" by Gilbert Vinter.
Russell's first association with the band as conductor was in 2003 when he led it to victory in the inaugural Scottish Open Championship with a performance of Philip Wilby's "Paganini Variations". His most recent success was in June this year when, under his leadership, the band won both the semi-final and final of the 2008 West Lothian Challenge in the Regal Community Theatre, Bathgate.
Both Russell and the band are looking forward to renewing what has been a most successful partnership in the past.
